Domestic Staff:
Our domestic staff are willing to work at the weekends and on public holidays. Audrey (the maid) is Shangaan-speaking with excellent English. She will expect to help you with the following: In the morning, she will unload the dishwasher and hand wash anything left from the night before. Once everyone is up, she will make the beds, clean the bathrooms and sweep the house etc. When you have finished lunch, she will load the dishwasher and run it. In the afternoon, she will unload the dishwasher. In the evening, please start the dishwasher after the final meal of the day .
Domestic Staff Continued:
Audrey doesn't do any washing other than towels, sheets and table linen which will be done weekly or as required. So please, do all other washing yourselves! Drying lines are located behind the garage, at the back of which (in the secure laundry room) is a tumble dryer. Parties over 6 will have to hire an extra maid.
Malaria and Weather:
There are mosquitoes around, but Nelspruit and the farm are considered to be a very low-risk malarial area. This means it is highly unlikely you will contract malaria when staying with us. Most local people don’t take malaria prophylactics unless they’re staying over-night in the Kruger Park or environs. That said, Killarney Farm House can't take responsibility for anyone who contracts malaria, so please consult your doctor or travel clinic prior to departure. November - March is mid-summer in South Africa. It is humid and balmy, and in the Lowveld it is ‘rainy season’. You should expect rain in the form of short-lived African tropical storms. Daytime temps can reach 40 ° C (104 ° F) while night-time temps are a pleasant 22 ° C (72 ° F). In October & April there is typically less rain and only a slight reduction in temperature. In May - September it is typically dry. Mid-winter is June - July and maximum daytime temps are still around 20 ° C (68 ° F) although the nights can be cold.
