Girona, a short drive from Barcelona is busiest in mid-May, when the streets are carpeted by balloons for the Temps de Flores, a huge carnival. There is also the annual Jazz festival in September, followed in October by the film festivals, specializing in Jewish films. However, the biggest carnival is for the week surrounding the 29th October, Patron Saints day of Girona, when they celebrate St. Narcissus. As soon as you step out of your holiday villa in Girona you will be swept up with the party. The town is very close to the Costa Brava, and services the seaside resorts.

Places to Holiday in Girona

Near to Girona, Barcelona is the birthplace of Salvador Dali, Figueres. It is unsurprisingly the home to the Dali Museum, and also offers great nightlife, catering for all tastes.

Close by is the Costa Brava, and the beautiful resort of L’Escala, a port which owes its existence to the anchovy trade, and celebrates the little fish each year with an annual festival.

Playa de Aro is another beach resort, build around a golden beach, with a seafront promenade filled with bars and cafés. The town centre however is a traditional Spanish seaside town.

The historic medieval town of Calonge has the serene backdrop of the Gavarres pine clad mountains, dropping to the sandy beaches and coves of its costal resort, Sant Antoni de Calonge.

The liveliest holiday resort on the Costa Brava is Lloret de Mar. Lloret de Mar caters for both family holidays and 18-30 holidays, with five beaches, 100’s of bars, water parks, theme parks, an aquatic zoo and a large range of watersports.
