More about Wales

Wales; a country often overlooked as a holiday destination for British holiday makers, but Wales offers a staggering amount. It is a truly beautiful place, and not just the rugged coastlines, sheer mountains and lush valleys, but the culture, tranquillity and pace of life too.
Places to holiday in Wales
Anglesey, the large island in North Wales is a stunning destination with great beaches, a long history and a number of world class attractions. The freshwater and sea fishing is challenging, as are the four 18 hole golf courses dotted around the island, so golfers and fishermen will be well catered for from an Anglesey holiday cottage. There are also a disproportionate number of historical sites here, from the Beaumaris Castle to Melin Llynnon working woodmill.
Pembrokeshire is surrounded on 3 sides by the sea. It is home to the only entirely coastal national park in Britain, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and many of the 50 beaches here are routinely on the list of Britain’s best beaches. Pembrokeshire is also home to Wales’ only theme park, Oakwood Park. Whale and dolphin spotting trips leave from Cardigan Bay.
Carmarthenshire is a walker's, cyclists and horse rider’s location. There are miles of trails through the lush farmland and hills. There are a surprising number of art galleries, and cultural attractions in Carmarthenshire, and it is a region hooked on sport, from rugby to football, surfing to cycling.
Snowdonia is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Snowdonia National Park is known as one of the most beautiful in Britain, and includes both mountains and coastline. It is also an area famed for the number and nature of outdoor activities on offer. A Welsh holiday cottage in Snowdonia will certainly not allow you simply to sit and enjoy the view!
Things to do on holiday in Wales
Wales has so much breathtaking scenery and rough terrain that it lends itself perfectly to outdoor activities and adventure sports. Walking, weather for an afternoon or a week is special all across Wales, as is the mountain biking and horse riding, which covers much of the same rugged countryside.
Wales also boasts some top class game, course and sea fishing from the lakes of the Welsh mountains to the rivers of the fertile lowlands, or the fisheries of the Irish Sea.
Wales has a rich golfing heritage, having established the Welsh Golfing Union is 1895. There are a large range of golf courses available, including the host for the 2010 Ryder Cup, Celtic Manor. See their official site. (http://www.golf.visitwales.com/).
The Mountains of Wales offer some spectacular mountaineering and rock climbing opportunities, and there are some magnificent caves to explore including Ogof Draenen, with 65km of underground tunnels. The coastline offers reliable surfing, and winds for windsurfing and kite surfing. White-water rafting, sea kayaking, wakeboarding, 4x4 trials, paragliding, land yachting and jet skiing are also hugely enjoyable activities from a holiday cottage in Wales.
Weather in Wales
Wales’ temperate climate means that there are no extremes of temperature. Although the summers (from May to August) are warm, temperatures do not soar to uncomfortably levels. Winters can be harsh, but there is still much to explore from the comfort of a Wales holiday cottage.
Travel to Wales
BMIbaby have regular cheap flights to Cardiff Airport (CWL) from many UK Airports. However, to get to many of the Welsh holiday rentals, it is easiest to go by train or drive.
