Egypt is set to increase its status as a tourist destination, according to its tourism minister, which could interest those considering renting or investing in the country.

The announcement from Zuheir Garana has been reported by Nubricks.com, which explains the plan to increase tourist numbers to 14 million per year, up from 11 million at the moment, is part of a bid to generate more money.

It is hoped that schemes to improve accommodation and attractions could help increase revenue by 26 per cent from the 2007 levels within four years.

Mr Garana has revealed a planned deadline of 2011, by which time it is hoped an extra 240,000 beds will be made available for visitors to the country.

Tourists are offered a range of tours when visiting the country, according to the official Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, including the classical tours which take in the sites of the ancient world, as well as religious, adventure and golfing trips.
