Investors in Europe 'should research market first'
Property investment abroad: 15 May 2008Property investors from the UK have been urged to carry out research before buying a property in Europe.
According to Your Mortgage, traditional destinations such as Spain, France and Italy are still very popular with British property buyers.
This has prompted the website to recommend that prospective buyers find out as much as they can about the area they are considering, such as recent market trends and various rules and regulations.
The online portal said this is especially important if investors are entering foreign markets, as they may encounter a language barrier.
Your Mortgage commented: "If you have your sights firmly set on buying a property in the sun, just don't let the dream cloud your judgment."
The website added that many Britons are keen to buy a foreign property because it allows them to mix business with pleasure and enjoy good weather at any time of the year.
A recent poll by A Place in the Sun magazine found that established property markets remain the most popular locations with British buyers.
Spain came top of the list, ahead of France, Turkey and the US.
